There Is Help for You in God

I don’t think giving up on God—or giving up on prayer—will ever be the solution to any challenge we face.

Life can be hard… metamorphic-rock hard.

We are hit with challenges we never imagined possible. We are pushed to embody a kind of strength we didn’t even know we had. Sometimes, life goes beyond what storytelling can capture. It can be alot.

And in all the turmoil, “let’s pray” has started to sound offensive.

We interpret it as: “Let’s not take responsibility. Let’s avoid action. Let’s just sit and fold our hands.”

But that’s not it. Honestly and truthfully, that’s not it at all.

Maybe we’ve viewed prayer through the wrong lens.

Prayer is communication with God—not just talking at Him or asking Him for things.

We often hold tightly to Matthew 7:7 — “Ask and you will receive”—and stop there, as though that’s the full meaning of prayer. But it isn’t.

In Matthew 6, when Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He began with: “Our Father…”

That changes everything.

It introduces us first to the reality of God’s fatherhood.

It’s like—wait, God? The Creator of the whole world… is my Father? wowwww

I like to imagine the disciples thinking, “Hmm, Jesus, with the way you’re moving, you’ll put us in trouble o. What do you mean ‘our’ Father? We know you’re not our regular guy, but still.”

This shows that prayer is first about relationship.

Jesus could have said “Our God” or “Dear Yahweh”—and it would still be correct. But He didn’t.

So before you even begin to pray, you are reminded:

I am about to speak to my Father.

God sees me as His child.

Not just one of His creations—His child.

The One He gave His life for.

The One He counted worthy and valuable.

The One He gave His Holy Spirit to.

So you’re not coming to beg like a slave or to ambush God. You come confident in His love for you.

The very fact that you can pray is evidence of God’s love for you.

The roses may not be visible right now because the thorns are pressing hard—but don’t be discouraged.

Even in this, God has not stepped away from you.

And no—prayer is not a transaction.

It is not a system where you say the right words and get instant results.

It is a relationship.

Sometimes the answers are immediate.

Sometimes they take time.

Sometimes God’s response looks different from what you expected.

And sometimes… it feels like silence.

But silence is not absence.

Silence is not rejection.

God is still present. Still working. Still intentional.

Even the responses we may never understand are wrapped in the assurance of His goodness. The good, the hard, His timing, His answers—they will all work together for our good.

Sometimes we ask, “But why is this even happening?”

The truth is, not everything we face is because we did something wrong.

We live in a broken world, and broken systems produce pain.

Sometimes it’s the result of human choices—ours or others’.

Sometimes it’s a stretching season, where our faith, patience, and character are being built.

Sometimes, we may never fully understand on this side of eternity.

But this we can hold on to:

God does not waste pain.

He works in it, through it, and beyond it.

So before you give up on prayer, consider this:

1. Prayer is communication with God

As you speak and pour out your heart, He also has something to say.

What if you listened?

What if you stayed aware that God wants to respond—through instruction, through His Word, through quiet direction, even through restraint?

Not every response will be loud—but it will be purposeful.

2. Prayer produces action, not passivity

Prayer does not replace responsibility—it guides it.

It gives clarity when you are confused.

It gives strength when you are weak.

It gives direction when you don’t know what to do next.

So we don’t pray instead of acting—

we pray so we can act rightly.

Sit tight, dear friend, because in all the chaos and pain, there is a deep consolation for the man in Christ:

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.” — Romans 8:18

God’s final answer to sickness is not just healing—but a new body that can never fall sick.

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore…” — Revelation 21:4

This is our hope.

This is what we look forward to.
