Dear sheep,
The Shepherd came looking for you.
He knows you cannot find your way back on your own,because you were designed to be led. You were designed to always have a Shepherd and be part of a fold.
He chose to come after you.
Ninety-nine was plenty. But it was not enough for Him, because you were not in the fold.
Before you recognized something was wrong
Before you knew you were lost, the Shepherd already knew.
Before you recognized your need for rescue, He had already set His heart on saving you. Before you understood the danger of your wandering, He saw the wolves, the cliffs, and the paths that led only to destruction.
He know where sin left you. He knows the separation it created. He knows that no amount of personal effort, sincerity, or determination would enable you bring yourself safely back to the fold.
And knowing all this, He did not abandon you to your condition.
The Shepherd came looking for you.
He entered the very world where you were lost. He walked among wandering sheep. He called them, taught them, wept over them, and ultimately laid down His life for them.
At the cross, the Shepherd did far more than suffer. He stood in the place of the sheep.
The judgment that belonged to us fell upon Him. The debt of sin that we could never repay was charged to His account. He bore our guilt so that we could receive His righteousness. He took our condemnation so that we could stand accepted before God.
He did not come merely to show the way back. He came to become the way back.
He was not waiting for your realization.
In the person of Jesus Christ, the Shepherd stepped into the field.
At the cross, He bore the consequence of your wandering, the full weight of sin and everything that kept you far from home.
And in His resurrection, He proved that death itself could not hold the Shepherd down, nor could it hold any sheep He came to save.
He made a way,not just for you to be found, but for you to be restored.
So when He finds you, He does not stand at a distance and point you home.
He lifts you.
He carries you.
Because salvation is not the sheep finding its way back.
it is the Shepherd who came, who paid, and who brings the sheep home.
Not because you called out for help,
but because you are His.
